Drug & Alcohol Awareness Poster Contest

The Perry County Prosecutor’s Office is excited to announce a Poster contest open to all Perry County students in grades K – 7.  The contest theme is “Drug and Alcohol Awareness”, which began on April 1, 2010 and will end on April 30, 2010.   Letters have been sent to Tell City, Perry Central and Cannelton Schools with the official rules to begin the contest.  We have asked the schools to choose the four best posters from each grade level and submit them to the Perry County Prosecutor’s Office for judging.  Each poster submitted will then be judged by a member of the Perry County Substance Abuse Committee, a member of the local FOP, the Victims Advocate, an employee from the Perry County News and the Perry County Prosecutor.  So please turn your original design into your teacher at school in order to be considered for any of the prizes.  Every student in grades Kindergarten through 7th grade is invited to participate by submitting an original poster reflecting the theme.

Official Contest Rules:

  1. All posters must be original;
  2. Posters must be no smaller than 8 ½” x 11” and no larger than 12” x 18”;
  3. Posters must deliver a clear message about the theme;
  4. Posters may include a slogan or message along with the picture;
  5. Students may use any media including: pencil, crayon, marker, watercolor, paint, chalk, ink, etc.;
  6. Students may use the computer to design a poster, but must not use any material that has a copy write;
  7. No names or identifying information about the student should be on the front of the poster.  However, the student’s name, school, grade level and teacher’s name should be placed on the back of the poster.

First, second and third place winners will be chosen from each grade-level group (K-2, 3-5 and 6-7).  There will be one Grand Prize Winner chosen from all submitted entries.  The Grand Prize Winners poster will then be displayed on a billboard in Tell City during the month of August 2010.  Other prizes will be handed out to the top 3 winners from each group.  The various prizes have been generously donated by the following businesses:  Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, Tell City Bowling Center, Wal-Mart, Tell City Pool, Tell City Cinema, Pizza Inn, Papa Johns, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, Subway, Wendy’s, R&A Sporting Goods, Hauenstein’s, Team Central, Logo’s, Wall’s Drive-In, KFC / Taco Bell, Capers, and Long John Silvers.  We encourage all students to enter a poster with his or her own design.  The winners will be announced on May 7, 2010.

As Prosecutor, I feel that it is my duty to help educate our students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. It is my hope that this poster contest will cause students to think about making appropriate and healthy choices.  Good Luck to everyone.
